wine of malta
No Mediterranean meal is complete without a robust red or
chilled, crisp white wine as accompaniment.
And there is
nothing better to accompany dishes than a wine produced on the
Maltese Islands.
Production of wine in Malta started over two thousand years ago and
with a Mediterranean climate of hot and dry summers and cool winters it
is an ideal place to produce ripe and full bodied wines.
In 2007 the quality wine system D.O.K. (Denominazzjoni ta’ Origini
Kontrollata) was introduced to the Maltese Islands. Any Maltese wines
from the 2007 harvest onwards that conform to the Q.W.P.S.R. (Quality
Wine Produced in a Specific region) and pass the D.O.K. accreditation
can display the words on the label Denominazzjoni ta’ Origini
Kontrollata or the abbreviation D.O.K.
Grapes grown in Malta's hot and humid climate ripen much quicker than
their counterparts further north. Wineries are careful to grow
varieties suited to the distinct limestone terroir. Soil samples are
sent to leading European experts to assess which varieties will thrive
here. Malta may not be renowned like its neighbours for wine
production, but the Maltese vintages still manage to win several
accolades in France, Italy and further afield.

A sip of holiday...
Since
1952 Kinnie is a unique tasting, alcohol-free, natural, refreshing
beverage. It's golden amber colour, and the fact that it is made from
bitter oranges and a variety of aromatic herbs, lend this beverage a
bitter taste which is an excellent thirst quencher. This drink is ideal
on its own, particularly with a slice of orange. It also mixes
excellently with a number of alcoholic drinks and cocktails.
Almost overnight, these distinctive characteristics made it Malta's own
favourite soft drink.
In 1975, a renowned Paris institution - Comité International d'Action
Gastronomique et Touristique - selected Kinnie as the beverage of the
year, awarding it the prestigious trophy 'L'Epi d'Or de la Qualité
Internationale' in recognition of its originality and quality.
In 1984, due to evolving lifestyle trends and an increase in health
awareness, a diet version was introduced and now forms an integral part
of the Kinnie brand. Kinnie Zest was added to the portfolio in 2007 to
target health-conscious, young adults who have an active interest in
health and their wellbeing.
